This qualification is intended for people employed by a Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered organisation who have a specific responsibility at work to safely administer, and monitor the effects of, medication within their scope of practice.
Successful learners gain the knowledge and confidence to safely provide lifesaving medication at emergency or life-threatening incidents. Topics include common types of lifesaving medication, determining a patient's condition, and the guidelines and protocols for administering lifesaving medication.
Achieving this qualification confirms learners have met both the theoretical and practical requirements. It does not imply a licence to practise: scope of practice is set by the organisation responsible for medication provision, and the qualification does not allow a learner to obtain, store or administer medication without clinical governance.
